Our Chutney tray brings together the four classic companions of a papadam: sweet mango chutney, a fresh onion salad, a cooling mint sauce and a tangy mix of spicy pickles. Sweet, fresh, creamy and fiery all at once, it is made for dipping, spooning and mixing as you like — and it keeps working its magic alongside your mains.
A dish with a story
The word chutney comes from the Hindi chatni, ‘to lick’, and describes relishes made in India for centuries.
Each region has its own: coconut chutneys in the south, mint and coriander in the north, fruit chutneys everywhere.
The chutney tray with papadams is now a signature of Indian restaurants in Europe.
Mango chutney as we know it owes a lot to 19th-century British tastes — India had plenty of chutneys long before.
