Full of flavour, our Dansak pairs a thick lentil sauce with a blend of special spices, slow-simmered to develop a rich, enveloping sweet-sour flavour. Inherited from Parsi cuisine, this unique curry surprises with its balance between the comfort of dal and the spiced character of a traditional curry.
A dish with a story
Dansak was born within the Parsi community of western India, heirs to Zoroastrian traditions brought from Persia.
It combines the Persian tradition of meat curry with Indian lentil dal, a perfect example of culinary fusion between two cultures.
Today a well-loved classic for its originality, sitting somewhere between a meat curry and a comforting lentil dish.
Traditional Parsi Dansak generally doesn’t use added sugar, unlike some sweeter Westernised versions: our version stays true to a measured sweet-sour balance.
